How to Write an Instagram Caption for Daycare

The name-and-day test. Signed photo permission covers the picture. It does not cover the caption, and the caption is where the identifying detail leaks out. No names. No ages paired with a first day. No “she’s with us every Tuesday and Thursday,” which is a small child’s public schedule. No street, no uniform logo, no location tag on the building. Some of your families have custody arrangements, protection orders or reasons they’ve never explained to you, and they should not have to. Write the moment, never the identifiers.

The 11am test. Read every caption as the woman at her desk who is not really working. She isn’t looking for your philosophy of play-based learning. She wants to know whether the crying stopped, whether anybody ate, and whether her child has somebody. “Where curiosity ran wild today” tells her none of that. “The tears lasted four minutes and then there was sand” tells her all three.

Your followers are almost all current parents, not prospective ones. Which means your marketing doesn’t happen when a stranger reads a post. It happens when a mother comments “this is why we love it here” and forty people who know her see it. Write for the parents you already have. They’re the ones who fill your waiting list.
