77 Instagram Captions for Boutique Owners
Your captions aren’t describing the clothes. She can see the clothes. She’s been looking at clothes on your Instagram page for 40 minutes and she has bought nothing.
What she’s actually doing is a calculation in her head. Would that sit right on me? Is the model a size 10 or 14? Would I look like I was trying too hard?
The photo can’t answer any of it. It shows one woman, in one size, standing still. The caption is the only place you can convince her that your boutique is the first and last one she needs.
Below are 77 captions for you to steal.
How to Write a Boutique Caption
A new-arrival post and a hilarious staff Reel want opposite things. One has about 6 hours to shift 12 units. The other is there to connect on a deeper level, with somebody who isn’t buying today and might in March. Same shop, same grid, different jobs.
Try this on:
The sizing test. Somewhere in the caption, say what size the model is wearing and what sizes exist. It costs you 6 words and it removes the single biggest reason a woman scrolls past something she liked. She isn’t asking whether it’s nice. She’s asking whether it comes in her size and whether it’ll look like it does on the 5ft 9 woman holding it. Boutiques leave this out constantly and then wonder why the saves don’t convert.
The 3 phrases to delete. Every new-arrival caption reaches for the same vocabulary. Obsessed. Going fast. Don’t sleep on it. She has read all 3 on 9 accounts this week, and none of those shops ran out of anything. Delete them and put facts in the gap instead. How many came in. What sizes are left. When it goes. “6 of these, sizes 10 to 20, and the 14s went first last time”.
True story: There is only one shop in my city that stocks a brand that I adore. They don’t restock sizes once they’re gone. That’s the kind of information a customer needs.
The one-woman test. Read the caption and ask who it’s describing. Most boutique captions describe a mood, an aesthetic, a vibe. Nobody has ever pictured themselves inside a vibe. Describe your ideal customer: what you wear on the school run tomorrow, look good at your desk this Tuesday, the bride won’t be the only one getting compliments. She recognizes herself in the situation long before she recognizes herself in the styling.
Two more things worth doing while you’re there.
Say who else is in your shop. A boutique’s real advantage over an online giant is that you have met your customers, and you know that the woman who bought this last week is 5ft 2 and had it taken up. Say so.
And post the thing that didn’t sell. The dress still on the rail in week 4, marked honestly as “this hasn’t moved and I can’t work out why” outperforms nearly everything else a small shop posts. It may just reach the right person.
