200 Instagram Captions for Hair Stylists
Your captions aren’t for the woman in the chair. She’s booked, paid, delighted, and already showing her friends.
Look at what your competition mostly posts. Obsessed. Swipe for the before. Hair by me. Those aren’t captions, they’re labels stuck underneath a photo or Reel, and the people who reliably like them are other stylists 200 miles away.
The woman you’re writing for hasn’t booked anything. She has scrolled 80 photographs of gorgeous hair in the last 30 minutes and can’t tell which of them started out anything like hers.
Which is the whole job of the caption. Not admiring your work. Telling her where that hair began, how many appointments it took, and whether the same thing is even available to somebody with her hair.
Below are 200 captions, sorted by the hair in the chair.
(Take them. Add the formula.)
How to Write a Hair Stylist Caption
A color correction and a 6-week root touch-up are different posts entirely. One is a 7-hour rescue that somebody has been dreading for a year. The other is 90 minutes of maintenance that keeps your rent paid. Both are worth posting and neither should sound like the other.
Do this:
The borrowed-caption test. Read your caption and ask whether the client could post it about her own head. If she could, it’s hers, not yours. State how many sessions it took, what it started as, and what it costs to keep. Write the evidence.
The upkeep line. Every color post carries the maintenance in the caption. Toner every 8 weeks. Purple shampoo once a fortnight, not every wash. Copper fades and there is no product on earth that stops it. Saying it how it is costs you 1 line and buys you 2 things: it filters out the person who would’ve been disappointed by week 3, and it marks you as the stylist who tells the truth. Every client has been let down by somebody who didn’t.
