77 Best Instagram Captions for Bakery Owners
Your captions aren’t for your followers. Most of them live too far away to ever buy a loaf from you.
That’s the odd trap of this trade. A bakery with 8,000 followers might have 300 within driving distance, and the other 7,700 are bakers in Ohio and Melbourne admiring your work. Lovely people. Not customers.
So a bakery caption has 2 jobs that nothing else on Instagram has to do. Tell the 300 what is physically on the counter this morning, and tell everybody else exactly where that counter is.
Below are 77 caption ideas.
(Take them. Add your street.)
How to Write a Bakery Caption
Before the words, the clock. Everything you sell has a shelf life measured in hours, which means posting time matters more than phrasing.
So try this:
The still-on-the-counter test. Read the caption and ask whether somebody could act on it in the next hour. A beautiful photograph of a croissant posted at 4pm is an advert for something that sold out at 10:30, and everybody who saw it learned that turning up is pointless. Post at 8am and say what’s out: 12 sourdough, 20 cinnamon buns, the last 3 sausage rolls. Then post again at 2pm and say what’s left, because “half price after 4” fills a shop faster than any amount of styling.
The postcode test. Every caption gets a place in it. The street, the town, the thing you’re opposite. Not because it reads elegantly, because a person who has never heard of you needs to work out in 2 seconds whether you’re 5 minutes away or 500 miles. Say it in the words a local would use. Opposite the library. Behind the market. Second shop past the level crossing. You’ll feel like you’re repeating yourself. Nobody sees every post, and the ones who do are the ones who already come in.
Also you post the decorated cakes because they photograph beautifully, but if you’re being honest, your business actually runs on bread, coffee and sausage rolls. Post the ugly things. A sliced tin loaf, a tray of scones, the pastry case at 8:15 with everything still in it. They perform worse and they sell more, because that’s what people buy on a Tuesday.
