How to Choose a Hair Stylist Business Name

Three tests. Run your shortlist through all of them.

The booking app test. Your name appears in a dropdown of forty stylists, truncated somewhere around twenty characters. Type each option out and cut it in half. If the first half means nothing, nobody’s tapping it.

The specialty test. A name that could belong to any salon makes you compete on price with every chair in town. A name that says what you do makes you the only option for the person who needs exactly that. Narrow is not smaller. Narrow is bookable.

Hair by Sophie isn’t wrong, by the way. Plenty of stylists build an entire career on it. It just generic, blah, boooring.

The chair test. You’ll say this out loud fifteen times a day, over a hairdryer, to somebody watching your face in a mirror. Anything that can’t be read backwards by your client is out.
