200 Yoga Instructor Slogans and Taglines
Your slogan isn’t a description of what yoga did for you. Nobody is booking your story.
Your new student is on your website at half nine at night, already certain she’ll be the stiffest person in the room. She thinks everyone else knows the names. She has decided, in advance, that her body is the wrong body for this.
So the words can’t be about the practice. They have to be about the room, and what it’s like standing at the back of it in socks, knowing nothing.
Below are 200 slogans, sorted by the kind of class you teach.
(Take what’s useful. Leave the rest on the mat.)
How to Choose a Yoga Instructor Slogan
The question every yoga slogan has to answer is whether she’ll be the worst one in the room. That’s it. That’s the fear standing between her and a booking, and it has nothing to do with how well you teach.
Two tests. The first one is uncomfortable and worth doing anyway.
The pronoun count. Go through your shortlist and count the I’s, the my’s and the me’s. Yoga slogans are the worst offenders in any industry for this, because teaching yoga genuinely does change people and it’s tempting to say so. But “teaching yoga is how I give back what it gave me” is a beautiful sentence about you, read by a woman worrying about her knee. Aim for none. Every line should describe the room she’s walking into, not the road you took to get there.
The back row test. She has booked and unbooked twice already. She’ll arrive four minutes late on purpose so nobody watches her come in, and she’ll put her mat at the back by the wall. Read every line as that woman. The ones that make the back row sound like a perfectly good place to be are the ones worth keeping.
Two smaller things. Don’t reuse a word that’s already in your business name, because you’ve said it and it’s spent. And check it’s true of your gentlest class as well as your hardest, or you’ll be writing a second one by spring.
